چکیده

The nitrogen-fixing capacity of 12 collection strains of R. ciceri in symbiosis with chickpea INRA 199 was estimated in the greenhouse by comparison with plant growth in the absence of mineral nitrogen. The strains were separated into 4 groups of significantly different effectiveness. The magnitude of the energy loss in nodule hydrogen production by these strains was estimated to vary between 0.19 and 0.77 in a controlled environment. No hydrogenase activity was detected in any of the associations. In the field, hydrogen production represented 40 % of the energy supply to nitrogenase activity during the growth cycle. A survey revealed considerable variation in nodulation, and in effectiveness of symbiosis, with the Rhi!obiutii strains naturally present in soils where chickpea may be grown in future. In some fields there was no spontaneous nodulation. In the majority of fields, the mean dry weight of nodules per plant was around 200 mg at flowering ;maximum field nodulation was 700 mg DW nodule plant ’.

Variation in Symbiotic Performance of Bradyrhizobium Japonicum Strains and Soybean Cultivars under Field Conditions

In this study the symbiotic interactive effect of different Bradyrhizobium japonicum strains with six soybean cultivars were evaluated under fi eld conditions. The rhizobial strains ASR011, USDA123 and CB1809 respectively showed hostcultivar specifi city with JS335, Lee and Bragg. B. japonicum ASR011 recorded the highest nodulation and nitrogenase activity with all the studied cultivars. Genera...

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria for improving nodulation and nitrogen fixation in the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

A greenhouse experiment was performed to evaluate the effects of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on nodulation, biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) and growth of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Tenderlake). Single and dual inoculation treatments of bean with Rhizobium and/or PGPR were administered to detect possible changes in the levels of and interactions between the phy...

Differential response of kabuli and desi chickpea genotypes toward inoculation with PGPR in different soils

Pakistan is among top three chickpea producing countries but the crop is usually grown on marginal lands without irrigation and fertilizer application which significantly hampers its yield. Soil fertility and inoculation with beneficial rhizobacteria play a key role in nodulation and yield of legumes. Four kabuli and six desi chickpea genotypes were, therefore, evaluated for inoculation respons...

Symbiotic Effectiveness and Host-Strain Interactions of Rhizobium fredii USDA 191 on Different Soybean Cultivars.

Nodulation, acetylene reduction activity, dry matter accumulation, and total nitrogen accumulation by nodulated plants growing in a nitrogen-free culture system were used to compare the symbiotic effectiveness of the fast-growing Rhizobium fredii USDA 191 with that of the slow-growing Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110 in symbiosis with five soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) cultivars. Measuremen...
